Welcome!

This is the first page of what promises to become a full featured book on Drupal and The Drupal Nigeria Initiative (TDNI). In the first instance we will be hosting The Drupal Nigeria Initiative at www.DrupalNigeria.Com, while I hope we already know the Drupal Open Source CMS is hosted on www.Drupal.Org.

A couple of friends and I have been using Drupal for a few years now. As a matter of fact we'd been using Open Source Software before we eventually got acquainted with the Drupal Open Source CMS. And the acquaintance has been a very pleasant one. I must confess using Drupal has GREATLY enhanced my purpose in web design & development.

I must note here that when I came across Drupal I was just nursing the thought of how great it would be if I could make a career change and move into Web designing & development. Of cource being a full-time Infotech Service Engineer and given my work schedule which takes keeps me travelling between project sites, I could hardly imagine that this would come through. Anyway, I stumbled across Drupal and installed it on a web space I had bought online. I fiddled with it, and I was just amazed at how much I could do within such a short-time. The thrill and satisfactory results I got gave me added motivation to push further. It wasnt quite long before I started developing production sites with Drupal.

One of the greatest assets of Drupal to new users, is its support community. Any new Drupal user can very quickly shorten the learning curve on Drupal by making use of the Drupal user & developer community coupled with the numerous other Drupal informational resources that are available online.

With all that I have gained from Drupal I just wanted to give something back to the Drupal community and my friends and I thought there would be no better way to do that than to bring Drupal to Nigerians and Nigerians to Drupal. This is the major essence of The Drupal Nigeria Initiative.

Another focus we hope to be carrying out, is to run programmers and coders activities that will encourage the development of Drupal and also Open Source Coding in Nigeria. In this case, we will be running Programmers and Coders Contests for Undergraduate and Pos-Secondary Computer Science/Engineering Students, with cash prizes to win. Apart from the cash prizes, contestants will enjoy the publicity and exposure it will bring to them. We are hopeful that through this avenue, we will discover so many hidden talents and hope to make Nigeria another giant in the software world.
